Charm City Rundown 5/22 - 5/28
Memorial Day Weekend is nearly upon us and that means it is time for backyard BBQ's, parades, MLB teams wearing camo, and summer will finally begin. Although I'm sure most of you have noticed that the summer humidity has begun to creep up on us this past week. For this being one of the busiest weekends of the summer, Charm City is relatively quiet on the events front. That is, on events that we, the readers and writers of IHJJR, actually care about. But I did manage to find a few gems. If you have time in between grilling, drinking on decks and rooftops, and getting hammered on Sunday because you are off on Monday, than check out some of these great events around our fair city.
Bikini Bull Riding Contest: Round 1
That's right my friends, your eyes did not deceive you; there is a bikini bull riding contest taking place in Baltimore. The first night of round one action for this visually pleasing event is happening tonight (Wednesday May 22). The second night of round one will take place on May 29, and the finals will be held on Wednesday June 5. The winner of the contest will receive a trip to Philly for the Ultimate Xfinity Live! Experience, two tickets to see Kenny Chesney in concert, a VIP table at PBR Philly, hotel stay, and dinner. Now, you may be asking where this spectacle is being held, and the answer would be at PBR Baltimore, of course. For those of us who will be in the crowd cheering on the contestants, enjoy $2 Miller Lites, $3 rail drinks, and $4 call drinks. I have no doubt that this will be a sight to be seen, and there is a high probability that I will be there taking it all in, so make your way out to PBR tonight. What else do you have to do on a Wednesday?
Wednesday May 22, 9 PM, PBR Baltimore, 2 Market Place, pbrbaltimore.com
Brew at the Zoo 2013
If you are like me, two of your favorite things are animals and beer, and, as fate would have it, the Maryland Zoo is combining both of these for us this holiday weekend. Head down to the zoo on Saturday or Sunday, or perhaps both days, and enjoy the biggest beer festival of the year. Every admission includes unlimited beer and wine sampling, a commemorative tasting glass, access to live music and special food vendors, and, of course, admission to the entire zoo ALL DAY! Some of the breweries on hand will be Flying Dog, New Belgium, Brewers Art, Yards, Angry Orchard, and many, many more. If you want to spend a little extra cash, you can buy the VIP package which gets you everything listed above plus two meals from Famous Dave's and access to a private tent and private restrooms. The music lineup will be headlined by the All Mighty Senators on Saturday and the Kelly Bell Band on Sunday. This will certainly be an event not to be missed.
Saturday May 25, Sunday May 26, 1-7 PM, Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, $32-$55 regular admission, $59-$108 VIP, $17-$28 non-drinking/designated driver, marylandzoo.org
