Dynasty Database: Jimmy Graham
To get you prepared for the 2011 season each week we'll be profiling a player who we think will be a great value come draft time, especially if you are in a dynasty/keeper league. Enjoy!
Coming out of nowhere last season to be a late fantasy force, Jimmy Graham is in a perfect position to make a huge impact in 2011.
Graham wasn't highly touted coming out of Miami and was barely on the radar of fantasy owners before last season. He had only played one season of football after playing basketball at the U from 2005-2009. The Saints also had Jeremy "Thor" Shockey so Graham was basically an after thought.
He only had 29 catches but from watching Jimmy Graham it was obvious he had the skills to produce at a high level in the NFL. Not to mention he has one of the best quarterbacks in the league in Drew Brees throwing him the ball. New Orleans targeted their tight ends 151 times last season. The Patriots, with Aaron Hernandez and previous DD player Rob Gronkowski, targeted their tight ends 133 times. That's a shocking stat that bods well for Graham, especially since Shockey is in Carolina and David Thomas is a free agent.
The downside of Graham's fantasy value is the offense he plays in. Brees loves to distribute the ball all over the field. With some many quality receivers and pass catching backs it's hard to predict monster stats for any Saints player except Brees. Also, Graham has yet to take the punishment of a full NFL season.
It's clear to me that Jimmy Graham is only going to get better and better. The perfect type of guy you want to target in a dynasty/keeper league. Graham is a popular name in fantasy circles so you might need to reach a little bit to acquire his services. Our rankings will be out in the next couple months but rest assured Jimmy Graham is ready to shine in the Saints high powered offense.
Fearless Prediction: 65 catches, 800 yards, 9 touchdowns
